An amazing advantage of living in a transportation hub like London is the easy travel available to points in Europe and beyond – and we want you to go and see the sights! However, when you head out to see the world, we want to be sure that you are as safe and secure as possible.
SU London requires that you let staff know any time you travel outside of London, and we’ve set up an easy, breezy online travel form for this purpose. This form is not meant to dissuade you from exploring, but exists just in case an adverse situation develops at your destination.
While we don’t want to dictate your travel plans, we do ask that you are smart when making them. The US State Department issues two types of warnings about potentially dangerous travel, including:
- short-term travel alerts (listed here), which describe “short-term conditions, either transnational or within a particular country, that pose significant risks to the security of US citizens”; and
- long-term travel warnings (listed here), which alert to “long-term, protracted conditions that make a country dangerous [enough] to recommend that Americans avoid or consider the risk of travel to that country”.
Your time abroad is short and precious, and we want you to take advantage of the breadth of opportunities available to you, but traveling in the year 2012 unfortunately requires equal amounts of curiosity and vigilance. By filling out our travel form, we can take a small bit of travel anxiety off of your shoulders.
We wish you all the best, safe & happy travels!
